My names Dominic Staddon and from the 8th of May to the 13th I’m going to be working at Eastside radio. I am in year 10 at high school and have always had a passion for music and an interest in radio ever since I started learning instruments. I’ve been excited about this for a while because I have never experienced being in a workplace before. I am most excited to learn how a radio station works.
Music I’m Interested In
As a 16 year old boy growing up in the 21st century most of my friends listen to either mainstream pop or rap. I’ve found that learning the guitar has allowed me to find other genres of music. I think this is why I’m interested in Eastside radio, because of its diverse music. When I was in primary school I learnt the Alto and Tenor saxophone and absolutely loved playing Jazz music.
When I got a bit older, I became interested in the look of the guitar and the variety of music it can play, I tried my Dads old guitar and when I knew I enjoyed it, I received a guitar of my own for my birthday. I have now been playing the Acoustic and electric guitar for about a year and a half. One of my favourite artists is John Butler, I love how he can play many genres of music and this is something I aspire to be able to do. In terms of blues I have recently started listening to Robert Johnson and am amazed at his guitar skills and how it sounds like he is playing two guitars at the same time.
Why Eastside Radio?
I was interested in Eastside Radio when I was looking around for possible work experience because i’ve been interested in Audio Engineering as a possible career for the future. I decided that working in a radio station like Eastside Radio will give me an insight on whether a career in this field is for me or not. Another thing that I am looking forward to is meeting and helping out presenters of the show because they are very talented and gifted in what they do and I think I could learn a lot from them.
It intrigued me how Eastside Radio also talked about community issues, arts and politics. I do Art as an elective at school and I knew that Eastside Radio would be the perfect place for me to do my weeks worth of work experience. I am very much looking forward to the week ahead doing a variety of different things and learning to work with other people in the radio field.
